OUR ASSIGNMENT IN BARRANCA AND PUENTE BOLIVAR IS ALMOST COMPLETED

Last Friday we completed our full course on "Walking with God" in Barranca. Fourteen students will be receiving course certificates from CHAKAM. However, almost 60 people were in attendance on a daily basis.

We had three salvations during these meetings.

We put Christopher to work on the first evening, giving a teaching (preaching) on ¨Warriors for God". He did a fantastic job. The Pastor of the local church, Pastor Rolando, was really impressed with Christopher´s ability as a preacher, particularly at his age. He is getting constructive feed-back and it is almost like a mentoring Bible School atmosphere for him here.
The next day, he gave his testimony at a youth meeting. There were approximately 30 youth, but with the adults in attendance, he had an audience of almost 80. He was so "into it" that he forgot about the time and spoke at lib for about 1 1/2 hours. Again, a wonderful job.

On Sunday evening, our total team went to San Pedro. I preached to a packed "little" church and we were there for the total evening. Three young men gave their hearts to the God and I asked Christopher to lead them to the Lord. HE IS GETTING HIS FEET WET!!!

In between these teaching and preaching assignments, we have to complete other international development assignments including the building of a small church in Puente Bolivar. The church has now been completed (80%), and tomorrow night we have a dedication meeting. This is going to be really exciting for this squatter community close to Barranca.

We are also involved in providing appropriate social housing to single moms (young parents with children) with the valuable assistance of the Saskatchewan Council For International Development. This international development project is totally separate from the work we are doing as a Bible College. The lead role in this project is carried out by Jubilation Program in Prince Albert. So far, we have selected four families. There houses are currently being demolished and replaced with pre-fabricated wooden units. The housing conditions for these families will be improved 1000%. It is so good to see their happy faces when we told them what we were going to do...

Also, in between, since Margaret and Christopher have not been here, when we have time we show them the sites. On Saturday, they saw the pre-Inca ruins of Caral. Yesterday, they were at Chorillos Beach and the Jesus statue in Barranca (on top of a hill overlooking Barranca). Today, they are visiting the seaport of Supe. And, of course, we have introduced them to the wonderful, colourful, "smelly"ful market of Barranca.

Till next time. If you read this posting, do not forget to leave a comment. Thanks.

CHANGING TEAMS

Yesterday Hannelore and Margaret drove by bus to Lima to bring Jess back to the airport. While Jess was leaving Canada, Christopher from the Prince Albert Church of the Nazarene was arriving at Lima airport. I could not go with them as I am still teaching every evening in Iglesia de Dios in Barranca.

Hannelore and Margaret and Christopher are expected to arrive back in Barranca today at about 4 pm local time. As soon as they arrive, we will put Christopher to work getting used to the culture, the people and preparing for the youth meeting on Saturday evening. He will be giving his testimony at a youth rally in Iglesia de Dios.

We are also planning to go and visit the pre-Inca ruins in Caral on Saturday.

Our schedules are somewhat being changed as we are receiving a number of requests to preach and teach at various different churches. We will start that on Sunday night at a church we had not planned to go to. Well, that´s the way it goes here.

Some team members have been suffering from colds, the flu and some other minor physicial problems. PLEASE PRAY FOR US.

ARRIVED IN BARRANCA

After a 4 hour trip on the bus, we finally arrived in Barranca, Peru. Barranca is about 350 km north of Lima.

On Saturday, we went with Pastor Rolanda of the Iglesia de Dios to Puente Bolivar. CHAKAM has been building a brandnew church building in that squatter community. The roof has almost been completed. Today (Monday), we made financial arrangements to have the roof completed. Although not completely finished, we have requested if we can have a church service there in about 10 days. They will install some provisional lights and we will have a wonderful time, dedicating this new church building. The people in the village are very grateful for what we have done so far.

We also looked at replacing (demolishing) some single moms´ housing. We have potentially picked out a few sites.

Last evening, John preached in the church in Barranca about ¨Dangers to Avoid in the Local Church". We had about an attendance of well over 100 people. Two people (father and son) got saved at the end of the service. The wife (mother) was very, very happy.

Today, we are starting day one of our five day course on "Walking with God". Fernanda Torres has come down from Lima to translate for us.

The weather remains warm and beautiful. PTL!!!!!

Till next time.

FIRST UPDATE

We had an uneventful flight from Saskatoon/Toronto to Lima. While flying north to south does not give you jetlag, we took the first three days to rest and to do some sightseeing. When you go down with a team, particularly when there are first-timers such as Margaret, you have to do some sightseeing. We went to see the changing of the guards at the Presidential Palace. We did some shopping at various INCA markets and we saw the architectural building in Central Lima.

Hannelore and I have seen these things so many times - so we become tour guides. That saves us on interpreters-translators.

I preached three times at the Iglesia Biblica Emmanuel in Surco-Lima on Sunday. This is the church where CHAKAM´s Lima campus is located. It is so good to see that this campus is taking the materials we have taught them in the past and now are offering a number of courses throughout the Fall season (Lima Fall).

On Monday we started with our first course at the Lima campus. We are teaching a course called ¨Walking with God¨, and we have 39 students in the first classes. Last night (Wednesday evening), we were joined by a number of others because it was there regular service night. We had about 80 students and preached on ¨The Fire of God¨.

In a few hours, we are leaving for Tablada de Lurin and have our first planning meeting with officials in that squatter community. We are planning to demolish and rebuild two houses for single moms in Tablada. The moms do not know about this as of yet - so it is going to be quite something to see their faces when we tell them what we have in mind. Their current houses are a collection of carton boxes, some wooden plates and some scrap metal. We hope to replace them with wooden pre-fab units placed on a cement foundation.

This weekend we are leaving for Barranca, 300 km north of Lima to start the same course (see above) in our campus there. We will catch up with you when we are there.

Please continue to pray for us. Things are going well, but prayer will give us more strength, more anointing and more wisdom to accomplish everything He wants us to accomplish when we are here. We are looking forward to the arrival of Christopher Pompu from Prince Albert, who will join us next Thursday. We can´t wait to see you, Christopher....

Always in His Service,
